The interiors and exteriors of the Hindu temples were decorated
with stone sculptures, the depiction of beautiful young woman
such as this figure were particularly prevalent. The figures
broad features are indicative of her Uttar Pradesh origin and
here she embodies the Indian ideals of feminine beauty. Her
naked body with prominent full-rounded breasts, slender arms,
narrow waist and soft belly are enhanced by and adorned with
necklaces, cords and multi stringed jewel girdles mekhala, as
a symbol of her celestial nature and social status. The subtle
tilt of her head and oval almond shaped eyes glance downward
in a coquettish gaze.
