Seated torso of a Buddha
Tang Dynasty (618 – 907)
White marble

The Buddha sits in full lotus position (padmasana) on a wide oval lotus throne. The robe draped over the right shoulder revealing the left side of the strong upper torso, before falling to the waist and over the folded legs.
This massive sculpture still retains its elegance due to the gentle and rhythmic folds in the robe . It is Tang sculpture at it’s finest.

Height 81cm
