Uma Torso
Angkor period, style of the Baphoun
11th Century
Greystone
Height 65 cm Width 19 cm
This beautiful female figure of Uma (the consort
of Shiva), is executed in typical Bapuon fashion, with the garment
clinging closely to the body and central panel falling in an
elegant fish-tail pleat. The waist also displays a piece of
material coming from the knot held up against the torso. Most
unusual is still to find the plinth still present.
